Best Christmas Fudge Recipe

When it comes to Christmas flavours, alongside gingerbread and spices like cinnamon, I’m also a big fan of chocolate orange. This fudge recipe is great because it doubles up as an all year round treat alongside being an easy festive fudge for Christmas too.

Not only can you make it for yourself, but you can place the fudge in mason jars and gift them as homemade Christmas presents. Who wouldn’t enjoy that for Christmas? I personally enjoy them with a cup of hot chocolate!

What Are The Ingredients For Fudge?

For this 2-ingredient fudge recipe the only ingredients needed are condensed milk and chocolate orange. Condensed milk and chocolate are melted together until combined; it’s then placed in the fridge and left to chill until set.

  • Condensed Milk: I used a tin of condensed milk. Don’t confuse condensed milk with evaporated milk, it’s an easy mistake to make as they look quite similar. You’ll get completely different results!
  • Chocolate Orange: I used Terry’s chocolate orange, they’re widely available online and in supermarkets. If you don’t want a chocolate orange flavoured fudge, you can use any chocolate you like with this recipe. You could also use their dark chocolate orange flavour.

Step One:

Line a baking tin with parchment paper and set it aside for later use. I like to use a small loaf tin or square baking tin.

Pour the Terry’s chocolate orange pieces and condensed milk into a large mixing bowl and melt in the microwave.

Step Two:

I melted the mixture on a high heat, stopping the microwave every 20 seconds and mixing each time until melted. It took me roughly 3 minutes to melt in the microwave.

Once the chocolate has melted, mix the mixture together until fully combined. I used a spoon to mix the ingredients together. Use a toothpick to pop any air bubbles that rise to the top.

Step Three:

Pour the fudge mixture into the lined baking tin and spread it out evenly.

Step Four:

Top with extra pieces of chocolate orange segments broken into tiny chunks.

Place the fudge in the fridge to chill overnight for best results or until hardened (2 to 3 hours). Then cut the fudge into your desired shape. I cut mine into square chunks.

My Top Tips

Careful when melting the chocolate as you don’t want it to burn in the microwave. Keep a watchful eye and be sure to stir the mixture thoroughly before placing it back in the microwave. If you’re worried about burning the mixture, warm it in 10 second bursts instead of 20 seconds.

Can’t find Terry’s chocolate orange? You can use orange extract instead, add a few drops to melted chocolate. Start with a small amount at first, then taste to see if it’s enough. It’s better to start off small than to put too much in at once. You can also add grated orange zest too!

If you don’t have a microwave, you can make this easy fudge on the stove. Simply heat the condensed milk and chocolate together, stirring continuously until melted and mixed together. Then pour the mixture into a lined baking tray and leave to chill.

The fudge batter starts to set quite quickly, so it’s important to move fast! Avoid leaving the mixture to sit around in the bowl as it will begin to harden. Prep your baking tin by lining it with parchment paper, so that as soon as you’re done mixing you can pour it in.

The smaller the baking tin you use, the more of a deep and chunky fudge you’ll get.

How To Store This Chocolate Orange Fudge

Store the fudge in the fridge to prevent the fudge from going soft. Keep for up to 2 to 3 weeks.

Why Did My Fudge Not Set?

This was my question the very first time I made fudge, though it tasted good, the texture was quite runny. This is usually because the mixture needs to be cooked at a higher temperature or for longer.

In my first attempt, I melted the chocolate in the microwave then mixed condensed milk into it, but it did not set. That’s why I now warm the condensed milk and chocolate both in the microwave together.
