What kind of chicken should I use?

This balsamic glazed chicken recipe calls for thighs. You can use skinless or skin-on. Skin will create a crispier texture, but skinless will make it a little healthier.

What are blood oranges?

Blood oranges are red inside, and they are sweeter and less acidic than regular oranges. They add the perfect flavor for this dish, but you can use regular oranges if needed.

How long do you bake balsamic chicken in the oven?

Baking at 350F, this recipe will take 30 minutes to cook.

Sides for Balsamic Chicken

Although this baked honey balsamic chicken thighs recipe is cooked along with radishes, onions, oranges, and garlic cloves, we still love to pair it with some flavorful veggies as a side dish. It goes great with Honey Glazed Carrots or Smashed Potatoes.

Or you can simply serve up the chicken on a bed of fresh greens, and drizzle lots of that glaze on top! And like all good chicken dinners, feel free to pair it with a glass of red wine.

Recipe Tips and Notes

  • Line the baking dish with parchment paper to prevent sticking (and make clean up easier).
  • Make sure you rub the balsamic glaze on every part of the chicken.
  • Turn the chicken over halfway through baking time to make sure it cooks evenly. Do this only once–flipping it over back and forth gets fussy and will dry it out.
  • Store leftover balsamic glazed chicken thighs in an airtight container, or wrapped tightly in aluminum foil. It will keep in the fridge for 3 days.
  • Reheat in the oven until it reaches 165F.

How do you make baked chicken thighs crispy?

Roasting is always a great way to get a crispy texture on your chicken! But to takes things up a notch, that coconut oil we mixed into the balsamic glaze helps a lot. It adds an extra crispness to the skin of the thighs.

Can I use chicken breast or legs instead?

I love this recipe with chicken thighs because it leads to super juicy, tender meat. But you can substitute leg quarters or breast instead. It will affect the total cooking time, so just be sure not to overcook.

What veggies can I add to make a one pan meal?

With all of the radishes, onions, oranges, and garlic mixed into this baked balsamic chicken, it’s already a one pan meal as it is! But, you can add more veggies or potatoes if you like.

Add sliced carrots and/or quartered potatoes directly into the dish to bake with the chicken thighs. They’ll get all the flavor from that glaze! Be sure to chop everything up into small pieces so that they’ll cook through in 30 minutes.
